Update:This website update is long overdue. 2008 was a very busy year for me. I have been doing more photography than ever before, and I have also continued to explore possibilities in encaustic. In a departure from my usual picture-oriented approach, the photography and encaustic have come together in three-dimensional objects, which have lead me to my first efforts at installation. My photography has consisted of macro lens close-ups, the documentation of my installation work, and documentation of the construction of the Border Wall along the Mexican border in South Texas. I have created new pages for each of these series which are linked on the left sidebar of this page. In November of 2008 I was contacted by Steve Hodel, author of Black Dahlia Avenger: A Genius for Murder, and son of George Hodel, one of the primary murder suspects. Mr. Hodel's book was one of the main sources for my essay Surrealism and the Black Dahlia Murder. Mr. Hodel provided me with some corrections to some information included in my essay regarding rumors of a malformed "infantile vagina"of murder victim Elizabeth Short. I have written an addendum to the essay including Mr. Hodel's comments. In the upcoming year, I intend to continue with the Border Wall project. I have some ideas for encaustic collages, altered books, and graphic design projects that I have yet to begin working on. I hope I can get all these new projects started and finished before I lose my inspiration! This is always a challenge for me, as I have to balance studio time with my full-time teaching responsibilities. As they are realized, I will add links to any new work I do. My New Year's resolution for 2009 is to update this website regularly!
